SHERI SANDERS: Sheri's played everything from Little Becky in the National Tour of Urinetown, to Kitty in the Opera The Screams of Kitty Genovese, to covering the international rock band sensation BETTY in their rock musical Betty Rules. 3 workshops/Goodspeed Production of Emmet Otters Jugband Christmas, 3 summers at the O’Neill Cabaret and Small Performance Conference, 4 workshops of Wendy Wassersteins an American In Paris, 3 solo shows, Black Boys Soloist AND Mother in HAIR at City Center, 3 productions of The Full Monty as Georgie, and 2 productions of Tom Jones and a multitude of workshops in between, she noticed that the radio was changing the climate of musical theatre and created Rock The Audition, a masterclass in auditioning for Rock Musicals.
The class became a cult hit in NYC — and Sheri became the worlds preeminent popular music repertoire coach. Sanders cold-called Hal Leonard Publishing, and in 2011 became the first author to publish a book on the new relationship between popular music and Musical Theatre. Rock The Audition: How to Prepare for and Get Cast in Musicals brought her to to 59 Musical Theatre programs in 5 years providing students, teachers and coaches the skills to successfully research, prepare and perform all styles of popular music for theatre, film and television.
Sheri turned Rock The Audition into a new interactive Online Rock Musical Theatre Training Program in 2016, making it possible to study directly with Sheri from every corner of the world, changing the face of auditioning for musical theatre on the stage and screen.
Sheri missed acting so she dipped her toes back in 2 years ago. In her “spare time", she has gotten to play Golde in Fiddler on the Roof, made her Off-Bway debut in NEWSical, Played Calliope in Xanadu, and joined the rock musical CHIX6 last April to step in for the writer in the role of Rise, and was then invited to be their “company cover” for the Off Bway run, covering the entire cast for most of the rehearsal process.
