An Evening with Katherine Jenkins

8:00pm EST 10/11/2014 - 11:00pm EST 10/11/2014

About this event

Katherine Jenkins, OBE, is the world’s most prolific classical crossover artist.  In 2003 she signed the biggest-ever recording contract for a classical artist and has since become the premiere ambassador of bringing classical music to a mainstream audience. She is cherished as one of Britain’s favourite singers, equally at home performing in her homeland Wales, or performing on international TV shows such as The X Factor.

Her stratospheric rise made Katherine the fastest-selling mezzo-soprano ever.  To date, Katherine has released nine studio albums, all of which have sold in excess of seven million copies and gone platinum around the world.  She has received numerous accolades for her recordings including two Classical BRITS for the coveted Album of the Year Award.

A favourite of royalty and politicians, from the Queen to the Prime Minister, Katherine is often called upon to perform in Britain’s most prestigious national celebratory events.  In July 2013, Katherine was appointed by the Queen to headline the Queen’s Coronation Festival at Buckingham Palace.

Due to international demand, Katherine spends much of her time touring the world.  In 2013 alone she has toured South Africa, the US, China, Abu Dhabi, and also continental Europe, where she co-headlined a sold-out tour with the all-male classical group Il Divo.

During the past ten years, Katherine has performed with operatic legends such as Andrea Bocelli, Plácido Domingo, Jose Carreras and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and has become known as one of classical music’s most popular artists, widely credited for making the genre accessible across the world.

Katherine reached a whole new audience in the UK, especially younger fans, thanks to her many television appearances - most notably as a mentor in two series of ITV's Popstar To Operastar.

In 2010, she was the guest star on Britain’s highest-rated Christmas television programme ever, the Dr Who Christmas Special, starring alongside veteran actor Sir Michael Gambon. Two years later in 2012, Katherine starred in her very own Christmas TV special 'Steppin Out with Katherine Jenkins’, which was broadcast on ITV1.

In the US, Katherine was a contestant on Season 14 on Dancing With The Stars, where she opened the season with the highest ever debut score, and was runner up in the final.

In addition to her other broadcast work, Katherine recently presented, The Katherine Jenkins Collection, a 12-part weekly series broadcast on Classic FM, the most listened to commercial radio station in the UK.

Katherine is also known for her philanthropic work and has run numerous marathons for various charities. Most recently, she ran the London Marathon, which raised over £26,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, and the Royal Parks Half Marathon in aid of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Katherine has also won praise for her work with British Forces Foundation, for which she is a trustee.

Throughout her meteoric career, Katherine has cemented her position as one of the UK’s greatest musical exports.

On 31 December 2013, Katherine was awarded The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2014 New Year Honours List by the Cabinet Office on behalf of The Queen for her services to music and charity – specifically her work with the British Armed Forces.

2014 marks Katherine’s 10th anniversary in the music industry.  On 20 January 2014 Katherine officially announced that she has resigned with Decca Records, going back to the world’s No. 1 Classical Music label and her classical roots.  Her 10th album will be released in the autumn of 2014.
